An initial assessment/interview may be required to ensure this is the right level for you.

What You Will Learn

The curriculum covers the fundamental building blocks of life and the complexity of ecosystems: Cell Biology: Structure, transport, and cell division. Organisation: The digestive and circulatory systems in humans, and transport systems in plants. Infection and Response: How the body fights disease and how vaccines work. Bioenergetics: Photosynthesis and cellular respiration. Homeostasis and Response: The nervous system, hormones, and the control of blood glucose. Inheritance, Variation, and Evolution: DNA, genetics, and the theory of evolution. Ecology: Biodiversity and the impact of humans on the environment.

How You Will Learn

Our adult learning environment is supportive and collaborative. You will learn through: Interactive Lectures: Breaking down complex theories into manageable concepts. Practical Lab Sessions: Hands-on experiments to fulfill the "Required Practicals" criteria. Class Discussions: Relating scientific principles to real-world issues like climate change and health. Online Resources: Access to digital platforms for revision and practice questions.

What You Will Need to Bring

A ring binder and dividers for organizing your notes. A scientific calculator (essential for the Bioenergetics and Ecology units). Standard stationery (pens, pencils, ruler). A laptop or tablet is recommended but not mandatory.

How you will be assessed

Assessment is strictly external and consists of: Two Written Exams: Each is usually 1 hour and 45 minutes long. Paper 1: Covers Topics 1–4. Paper 2: Covers Topics 5–7.
